Dear Parents and Students,
There have been significant changes to second semester YCS grading policies due to the COVID-19 closure. These changes are in line with recent rule-making by the state. Students in grades K-8, in non-high school credit-bearing courses, will receive narrative feedback on performance from their teachers instead of number or letter grades. Students enrolled in high school credit-bearing courses will have an adjusted grade scale as below:
A = substantial mastery of priority course learning goals
B = partial mastery of priority course learning goals
C = minimal mastery of priority course learning goals
I = NO evidence of mastery of priority course learning goals
These grades are based on demonstrated mastery of course learning goals; teachers will base semester two grading on evidence from the full semester. If you have questions regarding the grades your student is earning, contact their teacher for more detailed information. If you want more specific information related to continuous learning and grading during the COVID closure, please visit the Yelm Community Schools website.
